The Puerto Rico Gaming Commission (PRGC) has recently granted a total of seven new sports betting licenses. Among these licenses, two are permanent while the remaining five are temporary. The issuance of these licenses was determined by the recommendations put forth by the Sports Betting Bureau.
The operators, Ballers Puerto Rico Sportsbook, Liberman Media Group Gaming (LMG), and CCHPR Hospitality (Casino Metro), as well as the suppliers, Continent 8 Technologies PR LLC and Caesars Digital PR Inc, have been granted five temporary licenses. Additionally, the suppliers Swish Analytics Puerto Rico and US Integrity have been awarded two permanent licenses.
Currently, sports betting in Puerto Rico is limited to in-person activities. However, the upcoming launch of online betting is expected to stimulate job creation and investment in the US Caribbean territory. Additionally, the fees associated with this industry will contribute to the government’s revenue, although they are relatively modest. Betting operators will be required to pay $50,000 in fees, while service suppliers and technology providers will pay $5,000 and $15,000, respectively.
The issuance of licenses in Puerto Rico strongly indicates that the launch of online betting is imminent, although an exact date has not yet been confirmed.
