A man hailing from Pennsylvania strolled into the Michigan Lottery Headquarters after a long wait of 11 months, clutching a victorious ticket from the previous autumn. His timing couldn’t have been more perfect, as the 59-year-old gentleman had successfully matched the Lotto 47 numbers drawn on September 25th, 2021.
The numbers are 07, 12, 22, 24, 30, and 37.
He informed state Lottery officials that he had bought the ticket during his visit to Michigan to see family. Upon checking the winning numbers and realizing he had won the jackpot, he expressed his disbelief.
Despite the fact that the fortunate Pennsylvanian had purchased the winning ticket in Warren (a part of the Detroit metropolitan area) at a Shoppers Market Plus, he decided to delay claiming his life-altering prize for a period of 11 months. It is worth noting that the rules of the Lotto 47 game clearly state that “all prizes must be claimed within one year of the date won or else they become void and worthless.”
The 57-year-old said they held off on claiming their prize until they had devised a solid financial plan for the money.
The plan has been executed, with the Pennsylvanian finally making a visit to Michigan Lottery headquarters to collect his prize. He was presented with two choices: a lump sum payment amounting to approximately $1,300,000 or annual payments totaling $2,080,000.
Officials have confirmed his decision to opt for the former choice, which entails purchasing a new truck and saving the remaining amount for retirement, based on their current knowledge.
